                          DISKEDIT VERSION2
                  CONFIGURATION NOTES - AUGUST 1989
           -----------------------------------------------

DISKEDIT version2 is supplied on disk as a non-bootable program. This
means that you cannot run it directly on receipt of the disk as it
needs to be configured to boot from drive A: and run from drive M:.

DISKEDIT version2, unlike earlier versions, requires a ram drive to
run. On your PCW this is drive M:, and to get DISKEDIT from the
disk onto M: requires a copy routine; PIP.COM does the job nicely
but it is copyright, therefore I can't send you a copy even though
you got one with your PCW when you bought it.

To set up a disk so that you can switch on your PCW then insert the
disk and wait for DISKEDIT version2 to appear, follow the
instructions below.

Format a blank disk using DISCKIT (see your user guide if you are
unsure how to do this), then exit from DISCKIT to the A> prompt.

Insert your CP/M system disk in drive A:

Type PIP then press RETURN

You will see a prompt like this * at the side of the screen.

Each time this appears type the next one of these lines, until you
have keyed them all in. There will be a short period each time when
your drive light will come on.

  M:=A:*.EMS
  M:=A:SUBMIT.COM
  M:=A:PIP.COM

That accounts for the bits I can't supply on the disk. You should
still have the * at the side of the screen (if not type M:PIP).
Insert the DISKEDIT version2 disk in drive A: then enter the
following.

  M:=A:DISKEDIT.COM
  M:=A:UTILITY.OVL
  M:=A:PROFILE.SUB

You now have all the necessary files on drive M:, so put your blank
formatted disk into drive A: and type

  A:=M:*.*

then press RETURN when the * shows its face again to get rid of it.
Type DIR A: and you should see these files listed.

DISKEDIT.COM   UTILITY.COM    SUBMIT.COM     PIP.COM
PROFILE.SUB    J14CPM3.EMS

To run DISKEDIT version2, switch on your machine and insert your new
disk. After a bit of frenzied flashing of your drive light DISKEDIT
version2 should say 'initializing . . . ' then ask you for the time.

If this doesn't work, go back to the start and try again.

To print the manual, load CP/M, insert the DISKEDIT disk and type
PRINT MANUAL "current date". Note that the quote marks around the date
are NOT optional, but you can use any text instead of the date.

The PRINT command above should work for any printer, but for those
with Epson-compatible dot matrix printers the ELITEPRT command may be
more useful - ELITEPRT MANUAL "current date" CONTINUOUS - makes use of
the 12 pitch printing facilities to produce neatly formatted print
ready for punching to place in an A4 binder. There is also an option
on this to allow for continuous stationery; simply type CONTINUOUS at
the end of the command (or CONT or C). For single sheets, simply omit
the CONTINUOUS option.

Please note that while this option works perfectly on external
printers (I use it on a Panasonic KX-P1091 & a Seikosha SP-1000A) I am
unable to vouch for its usefulness on a PCW printer due to occasional
"funnies" which occur with the paper out detection on these otherwise
excellent machines. Perhaps a little jig with the PAPER command would
help (PAPER Form Length=66 Continuous - read your manual!), I really
don't know.
